Georgia's Shining Stars

William Avery

In The Beginning of the Georgia Stars - there was William Avery. Their will always be a special place in our hearts for William. He helped lay the foundation for the Georgia Stars. He is one shining reason why this program sits on top of the Georgia basketball universe! William played six years for the Ga. Stars and played for two National Championships, winning one and was the MVP in both National Championship games. William was the Ga. Stars first McDonald all American player William lead Westside H.S. to its first State Championship his Jr. Year. William first Ga. Stars players to attend Oak Hill Academy where they were ranked # 1 in Nation his Sr. Year in H.S. Williams received Scholarship from ACC Duke University Williams starting Point Guard for Duke Fr and Soph year. Williams Duke team finish in the final four his Fr year and played for the National Championship his Soph Year. Williams was the Ga. Stars first player to be drafted in the NBA, first round, 14th pick. by the Minnesota T'Wolves. Williams continues to play professional basketball in Europe. and continues to be a Shinning Star!!!!!!!!!!!

GANI –O- LAWAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS and GEORGIA STAR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ACADEMIC HONORS/AWARDS:

2003-2004- received freshman of the year. This award is giving to a student that shows outstanding performance in the class room and out side the class room.  The School staff and Administration vote for the student.

2003-2004- received Academic Athlete award for maintaining a 90 or better grade average. 

2003-2004- received Supreme Cadet in ROTC.  This award is giving to a cadet that shows leadership and academic excellence. 

2004-2005- received Academic Athlete award for maintaining a 90 or better grade average. 

2005-2006- Received academic award for maintain all A’s and B’s. 

2006-2007 – will be graduating in the top 15% of class of 2007.

ATHLETIC HONORS/AWARD: 

1.  2003-2004-First team All region, and 3rd team All-state

2.  2003-2004-I was the first freshman in Clayton County to receive Academic Athlete of the county.

3.  2004-2005- First team All Region and 1st team all state

4.  2004-2005 – First team given to me by the Atlanta tip-off club

5.  2004-2005 – Attend Nike all American camp

6.  2004-2005- Attend Pangos and made the All-star Team

7.  2004-2005- Bob Gibbons All-tournament team

8.  2005-2006 –first team all state

9.  2005-2006 –first team All-region

10 2005-2006- Dell Curry Bogangles All-tournament

11 2005-2006- Chick-fil-A all tournament

12 2005-2006- help lead Norcross high to a region championship

13 2005-2006- help lead Norcross high to a class 5A state championship

14 2006- Attend Nike all American camp and participated in the All-star game

15 2005- 2006 – Attend the Nike skill academy in Portland Oregon.

16 2006- Attend the 18u Men USA trail in San Antonio and made to the final cut.

17. 2006-2007- received MVP in the Lexington Catholic shootout.

18 2006-2007 – Help lead Norcross high to 3rd straight undefeated regular season region title.

19. 2007- Mr. Georgia Basketball

20. 2007-Named to McDonald All American Team

21 2007-Gatorade Player of the Year for Georgia

22. 2007- Help lead Norcross High School to a Class 5-A state championship for the second time.

23. 2007-Named AJC Player of the year

24 2007- Gwinnett Player of the year

25. 2007- Gwinnett Daily Post player of the year

26 Naismith Sportsmanship player of the nation
